Subsoil karren at Chillagoe

In places soil erosion has exposed the grikes and other, generally rounded, subsoil karren. One feature of the exposed grike walls are patterns of downward pointed triangular "teeth" (first set of photos). Jennings (1982, p.40, his fig 4a) described similar projections on the walls of Donna Cave.

The first set of photos is of subsoil sculpturing seen on specimens excavated from marble quarries.

The second set is of subsoil features exposed by soil erosion on the pediments adjacent to the limestone towers.

Marble Quarry exposes epikarst, with soil-filled grikes.
